Between 2016 and 2021, ICOM underwent a website transition as part of a broader rebranding effort. Unfortunately, during this process, many PDFs originally hosted on the previous ICOFOM’s minisite were not carried over. When the old website was finally deactivated in 2021, numerous links became inactive, resulting in the loss of archives.

We have been actively working to restore access to these materials. Where possible, the missing PDFs have been reuploaded and are now accessible via updated links. We are also maintaining a central backup of all recovered files in this shared Google Drive folder.

This volume is the end result of a three-year collaboration (2018–2020) between the Museum Studies Programme at the University of Helsinki and Finnish museum professionals. The aim of this collaboration has been to investigate how, indeed, theoretical concepts reach the shores of museum practices and help promote
best-practice methods. Museums are in the business of mediating the long-term understanding of society and acting as a bridge between past, present and future.

We editors hope that our book will encourage present and future museum professionals gain a more significant voice in stating matters near and dear to them.
